The Rivers
The Mexico creeking clinic will include 5 days of paddling on 3 different rivers. Repetition is the key to success, so we'll run two of the rivers 2 days each in order to be able to practice the moves repeatedly on the same rapids. We have specifically chosen rivers that will be friendly places for those learning new skills, but with enough challenge and excitement to keep more advanced paddlers entertained. It's important to us that everyone be comfortable on the river, so we welcome any boater to portage any drop that they are not comfortable with. Remember that most of these runs contain many waterfalls in the 5-20 foot range, so come prepared to try a few tall drops while you are down there.

Ojo Frio - Class III

The Ojo Frio is a great introductory run with many small drops where we can practice the basics of creek boating. It allows for an easy introduction to the moves in a non-threatening environment. This will be our first run in Mexico, allowing folks to get acquainted with the Mexican style of water before we move on to bigger drops.

Cascadas Micos - Class III+

The Cascadas Micos section of the Rio Valles is the classic first waterfall run! This river consists of 7-8 travertine drops and slides ranging from about 8 - 20 feet in height. With no approach rapids, large pools, and clean landings, this is the perfect place to run your first waterfall, or to hone your waterfalling technique. The run is short with a trail back to the top, allowing for several runs to be completed in a day. The wide ledges have several possible lines each, allowing the second run to feel like a different river than the first!

The whitewater is only half of the Micos experience - The scenery is spectacular! With huge trees, rich jungle vegetation, warm glowing aquamarine water, and dripping travertine rock formations, an experience on the Micos is bound to stick with you for a long time. We'll spend two days on this one.

El Salto - Class III/IV

The El Salto section of the Rio Valles is the highlight of the trip, with miles of fantastic drops in a variety of shapes and sizes to allow us to practice all sorts of moves. Like the other rivers on the trip, the Salto is pool/drop, allowing you to practice your moves in a comfortable environment. The Salto is also home to one of the best 20 footers anywhere - allowing for our biggest taste of verticality in Mexico. The other great news? We'll be staying at the takeout of this one, right below the beautiful 110 foot Salto el Meco cascade! This huge drop has been featured in several kayaking videos and is an incredible sight to behold. We'll be spending 2 days on the Salto.
