Washington Trip Report '07

Summer '07 is on, and we are now in Washington continuing to look for the most classic class III - V runs for the River Gypsies' Guide to North America. Here's a report from the rainy Northwest, where we hope summer will arrive any day:

Leavenworth Round One
Arriving in Leavenworth, we hooked up with John and Michelle - a couple who we have run into several times in our travels over the years. They are always up for doing some boating, and they took us right up to the Little Wenatchee with a group of their friends. This sweet class IV+ run is in a beautiful little gorge, and is free of wood for the first time in years due to the floods up here last fall.

Here's the first rapid - a big boof over (or more likely into) a hole.

After that the character changes to juiced up rapids in the gorge. Here's the entrance to the drop going into the gorge.

Kevin Colburn got a great shot of me in the same rapid on another trip at higher water a few days later. You can see it on the American Whitewater river page for the Little Wenatchee.

Here's the entrance to the second major rapid in the gorge - "Let's Make a Deal". I recommend door #3 on the far right just below this frame.

On our second trip, some of our group got pics of Andria and myself on the last big rapid in the gorge.

Leland finishing the last rapid.

Andria dropping into the same rapid.
