California Trip Report '07
Summer '07 is game-time for researching the River Gypsies' Guide - our first stop is California to check out some Sierra classics. Here's the report:
Chamberlain Falls is a class III/IV play run, so Andria and I switched gears and got back in our Recoils for some downriver play. The run turned out to be excellent, with fun boofy rapids, nice little chutes, and one playspot that was small but really fun at the lowish level we had out there.
After a couple of rides, Andria was nice enough to switch off and take pictures of me playing a little bit.
While in the hole, I invented a new freestyle move that I'm sure will be all the rage at world's next year. I call it the Funky Squirrel. It's sorta like an old-school backwards Phonics Monkey. Here's a sequence of it:
I don't think even EJ has done this trick yet. It'll be interesting to see if it will be possible in the shorter full-on playboats. I think oldschool/newschool fusion moves like this might require a bit more boat length. I sure was happy to have the length in the bigger rapids - it allowed me to try all kinds of fun lines and boofs.
Chamberlain is not all about play - there are 2-3 bigger rapids that up the difficulty to class III+/IV-.
We had a super fun time playing out on Chamberlain, but it was time to get back in the creekers for some Graninte bedrock action - we headed back south to try for some SuperDink redemption.
Stay tuned for the next update - SuperDink and South Silver!
